Açores to Sevilla: 1000 Nm
Jacques had warned me that after spending a few days doing a crossing on a cat, I would never go back to monohull. I’m afraid he was right. Once you go cat, you never go back. There were occasions when we were sitting inside having an amazing dinner, autopilot-on, where it was so quiet it felt like we were in a secluded bay, and a quick scan of the speed showed us doing eight knots! Amazing. The food and company were sensational. I must hand it to you Belgians and French. In your capable hands a fairly pedestrian “toasted cheese sandwich” becomes a magical “Croque Monsieur” which tastes so much better!
During the last day we kept the southern coast of Portugal in view as we made our way to Chipiona, and from there followed the Rio Guadalquivir for the last 55 miles to Seville. It was a very pleasant day sailing up the river, without any ocean swells, taking in the beautiful verdant picture on both banks of the river.
We arrived at the lock just outside of Seville with a pleasantly warm breeze and a twilight rich with blue and pink hues. We were lucky to be sailing behind a large merchant vessel which allowed us to join them in the lock rather than waiting. An interesting experience! Being behind a several thousand tons vessel proved surprising when it started its engines and motored out of there. Catalina handled it without issue. We arrived at the marina and took a taxi into Seville, where we ate a fantastic dinner near the bull fighting arena. We were all dog tired and happy to get to sleep at the end of a great week. The last week has also presented plenty of photo and video opportunities so I am looking forward to cutting the video and showing it to you all.
Thank you Jacques, Bernard, Didier and that grand lady Catalina for such a brilliant week.

Blij te horen dat jij en Catalina het schitterende maritieme avontuur tot een goed einde gebracht hebben!
